The Dallas Cowboys had a great 2023 regular season, ending the year with a 12-5 record and the top spot in the NFC East.
This netted them the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, guaranteeing them home-field advantage for their first two games of the postseason.
However, they were unable to capitalize on this, as they lost to the Green Bay Packers in the divisional round.
Many expected the Cowboys to make significant personnel changes after seeing this loss, but they ended up retaining Mike McCarthy as head coach.
They did lose Dan Quinn as their defensive coordinator, as he is now the head coach of the Washington Commanders.
As the Cowboys began their search for a new DC, Jerry Jones wanted to make one thing clear, as evidenced by his recent comments shared by the team and Around the NFL.
He was asked about McCarthy being on a one-year deal, and if that would affect a potential decision for a DC candidate.
“I don’t anticipate that being an issue at all,” Jones said.

He seems to believe that whoever will take on the DC role will do so gladly and that they will be largely unbothered by the fact McCarthy might not be there after this season.
The Cowboys had one of the best rosters in the NFL this year, but for whatever reason, they couldn’t find a way to win when it mattered most.
It will be interesting to see who they hire as their newest DC, and if that person can find a way to help bring them greater success.
