The New York Jets already have their quarterback.
Aaron Rodgers is fully expected to be behind center by the start of the upcoming campaign, and he hasn’t shown any signs of wanting to retire after flirting with the idea in his final season with the Green Bay Packers.
Then again, the team cannot ignore the fact that Rodgers is 40 years old already, so he’s not going to be around for much longer — at least, he shouldn’t.
With that in mind, the Green and White could look at this NFL Draft as an opportunity to pursue a replacement and long-term solution at the position.
Notably, Jets DC Jeff Ulbrich seems to like one guy for that job, as he recently praised Washington star QB Michael Penix Jr. after getting to coach him in the Senior Bowl.
Ulbrich raved about Penix’s improvement during practice and claimed he didn’t want to face him and that he has a bright future in the league (via MTMV Sports):
“To see him get better every single day of practice, yeah, he’s a special talent, he really is,” Ulbrich said. “He’s a guy that I don’t want to have to play against. I think he has a bright future in this league.”

If he doesn’t want to play against him, then perhaps the Jets could look to get him.
Penix excelled last season, even being a Heisman Trophy finalist.
However, he has a long history of injuries from his days at Indiana.
That, plus the fact that he’s 23 years old already, could make him slip all the way to the third round.
The Jets will also have the No. 10 pick, but they’re likely to use that to revamp their ever-struggling offensive line.
