After the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles to win the Super Bowl last year, the consensus around the NFL was that offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was going to be a hot commodity on the open market for teams looking to hire a new head coach.
Even though Bieniemy was a popular name as a possible head coaching candidate, he ended up joining Ron Rivera’s coaching staff for the Washington Commanders, where he was named an assistant coach and the offensive coordinator.
It seemed like a strange move, but it has now become a bad decision altogether after a forgettable 2023 campaign and Kliff Kingsbury replacing him as offensive coordinator under new head coach Dan Quinn.
Along with Kingsbury taking his role as offensive coordinator, Quinn has made it clear that Bieniemy will no longer be on the coaching staff moving forward, which prompted former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III to come to his defense on Twitter, as he can’t believe Bieniemy doesn’t have a head coaching job.
“Eric Bieniemy not being a Head Coach after 2 Super Bowls and 7 straight AFC West titles in Kansas City is STILL BAFFLING,” Griffin tweeted.
Eric Bieniemy not being a Head Coach after 2 Super Bowls and 7 straight AFC West titles in Kansas City is STILL BAFFLING. Then he got Charlie Brown’d by people saying he needed to run his own offense and goes to a Washington staff on its last breath. He should have never left KC.

With so many head coaching job vacancies recently, it seems unfortunate that Bieniemy was unable to find that elusive job as the leader on the sideline for an NFL franchise, and to make matters worse, he’s currently unemployed.
Much like Mike Vrabel and Bill Belichick, Bieniemy might have to wait until this time next year when jobs start to open up again in the NFL, which is unfortunate, considering how much hype he was getting to be a head coach over a year ago.
