The Washington Commanders surprised quite a few people when they hired former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to be their next head coach instead of going with Eric Bieniemy, who served as their offensive coordinator this season.
They had fired Ron Rivera, their previous head coach, after he went 4-13 this season.
Quinn will not retain Bieniemy, which means that, at least right now, Bieniemy is unemployed.
Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III feels Bieniemy being without a job is “baffling,” and former Cowboys star wide receiver Dez Bryant co-signed that sentiment on Twitter by tweeting: “Crazy.”

Prior to this season, Bieniemy was the Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive coordinator, and during his tenure there, Kansas City was consistently one of the league’s best offensive squads.
Of course, they won two Super Bowls during his time with them, which only made Commanders fans want him to be the team’s head coach that much more.
All of the NFL’s head coaching vacancies have now been filled, which means Bieniemy will need to accept an assistant coaching role or simply sit out the 2024 campaign.
The Commanders have somewhat of a clean slate with new ownership and the No. 2 pick in April’s draft, which they will use on a quarterback, at least in all likelihood.
Bieniemy joins a small group of what seemed like prime head coaching candidates who are currently jobless, including former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and coaching legend Bill Belichick.
Perhaps a year from now there will be a coaching vacancy that will be very attractive to at least one of those men.
