With less than a week left before the San Francisco 49ers take on the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, head coach Kyle Shanahan is doing the rounds with the media, talking about his players and the biggest game of his life this weekend.
It comes as no surprise that a hot topic of discussion leading up to this weekend’s Super Bowl in Sin City is the rise of second-year quarterback Brock Purdy.
Shanahan has been addressing questions about his quarterback ever since he took over for an injured Jimmy Garoppolo last season and led the team to the NFC Championship Game as a rookie and the last player taken in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Even though many still question whether Purdy is the real deal for San Francisco, Shanahan continues to back his star player under center, believing his humility is one of his best attributes, via 49ers on NBCS.
“Brock is as humble as a person as I’ve ever been around,” Shanahan said.

Heading into Sunday’s game against the Chiefs, it could be argued that Purdy has everything to win, as he will almost undoubtedly quiet his critics with a big performance, and everything to lose, as he’ll likely be the fall guy if the 49ers can’t get the win over Kansas City.
That’s an enormous amount of pressure for the Iowa State product, but he seems up to the task and willing to take on all the responsibility of being the 49ers’ starter under center during the big game.
