Ever since Brock Purdy, who was a rookie on the San Francisco 49ers at the time, took over for injured veteran Jimmy Garoppolo, he’s been criticized and labeled a “game manager” for the way he plays the game, with most of the credit for his success on the football field going to head coach Kyle Shanahan and his system.
With Purdy repeating his success from last season and taking the 49ers to the Super Bowl to take on the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs, he has been put under the spotlight again but still has yet to shed the label of being a “game manager” despite his success in two seasons in the NFL.
Most quarterbacks that have been as successful as Purdy in such a short amount of time would take being called a “game manager” as disrespectful, but it seems the 49ers starter is over all the talk and now takes it as a compliment, via 49ers on NBCS.
“I feel like it can be a compliment at times. You have a guy who can come in and run the system well, I feel like that’s a compliment,” Purdy said.

As Shanahan said this week when talking about his starting quarterback, Purdy’s humility is one of his best traits and something that has likely helped him defy the odds in his football career to be on the cusp of winning a Super Bowl in only his second season in the league.
Purdy will certainly be put to the test on Sunday, as he will have the tall task of preventing the Chiefs from repeating and adding another Vince Lombardi Trophy to the 49ers’ trophy case in the Bay Area.
