Brock Purdy is about to become the lowest-drafted quarterback to start in a Super Bowl, and he will have the opportunity to lead the San Francisco 49ers to their first world championship since the 1994 season.
He will get to do so against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, who are the defending champs and defeated the 49ers in the Super Bowl four years ago.
Despite Purdy’s brilliant play since taking over the starting QB spot in Week 13 last season, some still think he’s nothing more than a “system quarterback” who looks good only because of the talent and coaching around him.
Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills’ star signal-caller, said on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak” that Purdy has done more than what has been asked of him, he has made plays with his arm and legs outside of the system and he has had more success in that system than other QBs San Francisco has had.
“He does more than what he is asked to do. He makes plays outside of the structure. He’s made some unbelievable plays with his feet and being able to extend some plays,” Allen said.

Before Purdy took over, the 49ers’ starting quarterback for the majority of the time since Kyle Shanahan took over as head coach in 2017 was Jimmy Garoppolo, who is an above-average player but certainly has his limitations.
Unlike Garoppolo, who is now a member of the Las Vegas Raiders, Purdy makes quick and accurate reads, is mobile, can get out of the pocket and make accurate passes on the move, is accurate on passes beyond 15-20 yards, and can move the chains with his legs.
A win in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday would cement Purdy as one of the greatest stories in the history of sports and someone whose ability and excellence can no longer be denied.
