The New England Patriots are entering a new era.
Bill Belichick will no longer be calling the shots, which is weird for many, as he was there for as long as some fans have been watching football — or have even been alive.
Jerod Mayo will be his successor, which was always the plan within the organization.
That’s why it’s not much of a shock to see team owner Robert Kraft rave about Mayo.
Talking on SiriusXM NFL Radio ahead of the Super Bowl, the business mogul claimed that Belichick set a very high standard within the organization for over a quarter of a century there, adding that he’s fully confident in Mayo’s ability to carry the torch.
“I’m a big fan of Jerod Mayo,” Kraft said.

He praised him as a leader of men and as a person, pointing out the fact that he was named team captain in just his second year in the league.
He also lauded his ability to communicate with the players, so he expects him to have them motivated and bring out the best of them.
Mayo was out there in the trenches, just like them.
He should be able to speak their language, look them in the eyes, and demand nothing but the very same things he did when he played.
Of course, the Patriots still need to take care of several issues, mostly on offense, and their quarterback situation continues to be a question mark, but the fans should feel quite excited about what’s to come.
