The New England Patriots were six-point underdogs in their trip to Arlington.
While their offense was expected to struggle vs. the Dallas Cowboys, most analysts expected their defense to at least keep up with them.
That wasn’t the case, and the Cowboys rolled past them from start to finish, especially defensively.
The Pats were only able to score three points, and HC Bill Belichick pulled Mac Jones in the second half, which obviously led to more questions, criticism, and doubts about his ability to lead the team in the future.
With that in mind, OC Bill O’Brien talked to Mike Reiss of ESPN, stating that Jones takes plenty of ownership when things don’t go his way but adding that he’s a tough-minded young man who will bounce back from that kind of poor performance.
Patriots OC Bill O’Brien on QB Mac Jones:
“Mac is a battler. He is a competitor. When you play quarterback in this league, you have to limit the mistakes and you have to limit the bad games you have, obviously. We’re all in it together. We have to do a better job of coaching up… pic.twitter.com/gwqXy7y8i7

O’Brien also made sure to point out that Jones wasn’t the only one responsible for the loss, adding that the coaches need to do a better job of putting him in a position to succeed.
The OC also stated that Jones has never stopped working hard and that the team has full belief in him as the guy they need for their future.
Jones looked quite promising in his first season in the league, but he has vastly regressed ever since.
Granted that the Patriots’ coaching, play-calling, and skill players haven’t also done a lot to help him, but the reality is that he may not be suited to lead such a storied franchise after all.
