There were rumors that legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick was headed to the Atlanta Falcons after he and the New England Patriots parted ways several weeks ago.
But instead, the Falcons went with Raheem Morris, leading to speculation about why Belichick wasn’t their choice.
The speculation is that the Falcons were leery of Belichick wanting control over personnel moves, as he was the Patriots’ de facto general manager and carries a whole lot of clout.
But owner Arthur Blank pushed back on that speculation, per Michael Rothstein.
“All these things being produced by the media were totally not true,” Blank said.
Falcons owner Arthur Blank said Bill Belichick’s “interviews were excellent” and that he was talking to a living legend.
Wants to make clear Belichick NEVER asked the Falcons for full control of the building.

Belichick spent 24 seasons at the helm of the Patriots, and of course, most of the time was spent with legendary quarterback Tom Brady by his side.
Together, Belichick and Brady won six Super Bowl championships and made the Patriots into one of the greatest dynasties in modern sports history.
However, the Patriots have struggled since Brady left following the 2019 season, and although quarterback Mac Jones made the Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2021, he hasn’t amounted to anything since.
Overall, Belichick hasn’t exactly been the same coach without Brady.
Barring an unexpected development, it is looking like Belichick will be watching the 2024 NFL season at home.
Meanwhile, the Falcons have a big question mark at quarterback, but they have a couple of young studs in running back Bijan Robinson and wide receiver Drake London.
