For months, analysts and fans have just assumed that the Chicago Bears would look to part ways with Justin Fields and grab Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick.
That seemed like the logical thing to do.
Not only does Williams have a higher upside, but he would also save them a lot of money for the next couple of years, as Fields is now eligible to sign a very lucrative contract extension.
Nonetheless, it now seems like the team could seriously be considering moving on from that pick.
Needless to say, whoever wants it would have to pay a high price, with Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk deeming it ‘historic’ compensation.
The Bears already traded the No. 1 pick last season.
“Chicago would demand “historic compensation” and a “crazy” number of picks to trade down, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network,” read the report.

Multiple players have made a case for the Bears to stick with Fields, but they need to build their offense around what he’s good at, which is something they haven’t done.
Also, they would need to add more talent around him, and this transaction would allow them to do so.
As great as Williams is as a prospect, he’s still a prospect.
Also, he might not be cut to play in Chicago’s blistering cold, which is another factor to consider.
And with Kliff Kingsbury arriving in the nation’s capital, some think the Washington Commanders could be in line to trade up to reunite the USC star with his QB coach.
