One of the most surprising teams in the NFL after the first month of the 2023 season is, without a doubt, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield leading the way under center.
After their superstar quarterback and arguably the greatest player to ever play the game called it quits after last season, the Buccaneers had the tall task of replacing Tom Brady, which obviously was no easy feat.
However, the team didn’t hesitate to bring in Mayfield, who was coming off a better-than-expected stint with the Los Angeles Rams in which he replaced the injured Matthew Stafford.
Although Mayfield had a decent showing in Los Angeles, no one expected him to lead the Buccaneers to a 3-1 record to start the season.
Even though the team was humbled by the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3, Mayfield and company bounced back with a dominant performance against the division-rival New Orleans Saints and now sit atop the NFC South.
Despite the team’s early success, Joy Taylor of FOX Sports isn’t ready to buy into the Buccaneers with Mayfield as their quarterback, via “Speak” on FS1.

Taylor isn’t wrong in her assessment of Mayfield and the Buccaneers because, at most, this team wins the NFC South division title and possibly a playoff game.
However, that’s all the Buccaneers are probably looking for at this point, as they didn’t bring in Mayfield to win a Super Bowl as they did with Brady.
Tampa Bay is on the verge of a rebuild, and this is the best they can do; they should be thankful that Mayfield has proven to be better than expected.
