The San Francisco 49ers were riding high heading into the Super Bowl.
Most analysts expected them to win this game, and with Las Vegas making them slight favorites in the game, it seemed like they were on the right path.
While it looked like they were in the driver’s seat at some points, they ended up falling just short.
This was a devastating loss for many of the 49ers veterans, as well as some of their newest players, including Brock Purdy.
Many wondered how Purdy would perform in his first Super Bowl, and he ended up playing better than was expected of him.
Purdy spoke about this loss after the game, saying, “It just hurts. We had the team to win the whole thing, and to just come up short like that… Everyone wanted it so bad.”

Purdy feels partially responsible for the loss, even though he didn’t throw any interceptions or have any turnovers.
He understands that for some veteran players, this could be their last season on the 49ers, their last plausible chance to win a Super Bowl.
It will be interesting to see how the 49ers bounce back from this in the 2024 season, and if they’re able to get back to the title game.
They will, undoubtedly, need to take a deep look at their roster, figuring out which players make sense to retain, and which players they need to move on from.
When it comes time for contract extensions, the 49ers will be forced to make some tough decisions, potentially not re-signing players that helped them get to this point.
