The San Francisco Giants remain hopeful of being contenders in 2024.
They have a solid foundation to compete and added center fielder Jung-Hoo Lee and pitcher Jordan Hicks, among other players.
Traditionally, they have needed power for their lineup, and the 2023-24 offseason has been no exception: they are still pursuing players who are capable of hitting home runs in their tough park.
One of those players is Jorge Soler.
MLB insider Jon Morosi confirmed that the Giants and the player’s camp have had “a long conversation this offseason” and that the two sides remain in a “staring contest.”
“There is a bit of a staring contest going on between [Jorge] Soler’s camp and the Giants.”

Evidently, the Giants aren’t the only squad with which Soler is negotiating.
They are one of the favorites to sign him, though, but it will come down to a contractual detail.
Most of the offers he has received, per Morosi, are two-year deals.
The slugger, who clubbed 36 home runs last year with the Miami Marlins, is said to be looking for a third one or at least a two-year pact with a player option.
Soler had a .853 OPS in a big home park last year, and San Francisco believes he can replicate that performance for them.
Who will blink first?
Who will be the one budging and falling for the other party’s demands?
We are close to a resolution, as most MLB camps will open this week and the unsigned free agents will eventually commit their future to a team.
