With the 2023 NFL season now a month in, things are starting to shape up around the league in terms of which teams are legitimate contenders and which teams won’t be living up to expectations this year.
Two teams that appear to be legitimate Super Bowl title contenders in the NFC are the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers, with both teams proving their worth over the first four weeks of the season.
Although the Cowboys stumbled unexpectedly in Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals, Micah Parsons and company were able to bounce back with a vengeance in Week 4 with a dominant performance against the New England Patriots.
In Week 5, these two NFC heavyweights will go head-to-head at Levi’s Stadium in the Bay Area in what could be an NFC Championship preview, with the winning team walking away with bragging rights.
Nick Wright of FOX Sports believes that pressure will be on the Cowboys to come out on top in this one, especially because they have arguably the better quarterback in Dak Prescott, via “First Things First.”
“If the Cowboys lose to the 49ers there will be a ‘Yeah, but’ surrounding them the rest of the year no matter what. The Niners ended their season the last 2 years. Dak is going to have to adjust & make plays. They have the better QB.”

With the 49ers ending the Cowboys’ season the last two years in a row and all the history between these two teams in this rivalry, Dallas will have to show up in Week 5 in what could be a battle of elite defenses, even though Wright thinks it will come down to the quarterbacks.
The 49ers and Cowboys have arguably the two best defenses in the league, and that seems to be the one constant with each team each week, with Nick Bosa and Parsons leading their teams and potentially being the difference moving forward.
