The Kansas City Chiefs weren’t exactly at their best this season.
Most people thought they could be had, as they had struggled mightily offensively and lost some games they would’ve usually won.
Notably, one of those losses was particularly painful.
The Las Vegas Raiders, with Antonio Pierce as interim coach, got the best of them 20-14 on Christmas day thanks to a couple of defensive touchdowns, and it was a bit of a wake-up call for Andy Reid’s team.
That’s why the veteran coach actually reached out to Pierce in the wake of the Super Bowl.
He thanked him for putting them on notice with that win, stating that teams tend to get complacent at times and talking about how tiny the margin between winning and losing can be in the National Football League (via Around the NFL):
“I texted him,” Reid said. “I just said, Hey, beautiful facility, first of all. And I appreciate you kicking our tail because you taught us a lesson. You get complacent in this business, the margin between winning and losing is tiny.”

Notably, the Raiders won three divisional games since Pierce took the reins of the team.
He earned praise and respect from the locker room, up to the point where star DE Maxx Crosby even threatened to request a trade if he didn’t get the full-time job.
Of course, the Raiders are still far behind in the race for the mountaintop, and the Chiefs will continue to rule the division until proven otherwise.
But Pierce got the players to believe, and that’s the first step in the right direction.
Now, it’ll all be about building from that momentum and letting everybody in the league know that they will never back down without a fight.
