The Kansas City Chiefs were either unwilling or unable to meet Mecole Hardman’s asking price in free agency.
The wide receiver opted to take his talents to the Big Apple, as the prospect of catching passes from Aaron Rodgers was almost as exciting as getting the ball from Patrick Mahomes.
However, with the Jets’ offense sinking literally after the first drive of the season, he fell behind in the pecking order.
His former team was in desperate need of some reliable hands, so they traded back for him, and his return couldn’t have been better, as he wound up catching the Super Bowl-winning touchdown.
Now, with free agency looming again, Hardman admits that he wants to be back on Andy Reid’s team next season.
Nonetheless, he also knows this is a business, so he acknowledges this will all depend on how negotiations go (via Around the NFL):
“Well, yeah, that’d be the goal for sure, to come back, but we’ve got to see what happens when the negotiation starts and see what happens, see what (general manager Brett) Veach’s got planned for me,” he said.

The Chiefs need to make some major moves to get more firepower at the wide receiver position, as they struggled mightily offensively all season long.
Even so, they still managed to go the distance and win the whole thing.
Hardman is no star by any means, but he’s familiar with the offense and has delivered when his number has been called.
So even if the Chiefs look to pursue bigger names in free agency, via trade, or even in the NFL Draft, it would be wise to consider bringing him back.
