Week 4 may have resulted in another loss for the New York Jets, but the team had to be encouraged by what they saw from Zach Wilson.
The Jets narrowly lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 23-20 and Wilson was largely the reason why as he arguably had the best performance of his career on Sunday Night Football.
New York had been dealing with plenty of outside noise prior to the matchup as numerous people were calling for Robert Saleh to bench Wilson.
Even the locker room was reportedly turning on Wilson as he has not been able to capably fill in for Aaron Rodgers.
However, Wilson looked like a completely different player against the Chiefs as he made smart decisions and showed off the arm talent that made him such a highly-touted prospect coming out of college.
Rodgers has taken Wilson under his wing since arriving in New York and he revealed just how close the two are via The Pat McAfee Show.
“Zach and I talk almost every day.. I’m always checking in with him and I think we’ve seen a lot of leadership growth from him,” Rodgers said.

During his time with the Green Bay Packers, there were murmurings that Rodgers was unwilling to teach Jordan Love after the organization made the curious decision to draft him.
However, it seems like Rodgers is embracing the role of a mentor especially now given that he’ll likely be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
Even though Wilson will never be able to replace Rodgers on the field, it’s good to hear that the future Hall of Fame quarterback is doing his best to make sure his protege has someone he can lean on.
