The San Francisco 49ers are in the hunt for a new defensive coordinator.
Steve Wilks paid the price for the team’s shortcomings after the biggest game of the season, even though he had the defense ready to play.
Some people have called out Kyle Shanahan for this decision.
Considering that, ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith claimed to be ‘disgusted’ by this, adding that this was definitely not a good look for coach Shanahan.
Talking on First Take, the renowned pundit stated that leaders are in a position to make such decisions, but perhaps Shanahan should be more accountable for his own shortcomings.
“I think it should be a bad look, I’m disgusted. My heart goes out to my brother Steve Wilks because he keeps getting screwed over time and time again,” Smith said.

Smith thinks Wilks has been scapegoated way too many times in his career already, adding that it’s not fair that he’s now unemployed while Shanahan was able to keep his job.
At the end of the day, this is a ruthless business, and that’s just the way things go sometimes.
Still, Shanahan is running out of excuses now, and he will be in the spotlight every single game from now on.
