The New England Patriots could start the Jerod Mayo era without one of their veterans.
According to a report by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, OT Trent Brown is about to become a free agent.
This is Brown’s second stint in Foxboro, and the team is reportedly not going to offer him a contract extension.
#Patriots OT Trent Brown’s contract will void today without an extension from the team, setting him up to be a free agent March 13, per source.
Team will carry a $2 million dead cap into 2024 from his previous contract.

Brown made his way back to the Patriots in 2021 after being traded by the Las Vegas Raiders.
He had already been traded to the Patriots before in 2018, helping them win a Super Bowl.
The 30-year-old signed a very lucrative deal as as free agent with the Raiders the very next offseason, just to be traded back to New England a couple of years into his contract.
Brown struggled with injuries in 2021 but became a perennial starter the following campaign.
Now, he’s coming off playing just 11 games with eight starts.
The Patriots are definitely going to look for an upgrade at the left tackle position in the offseason.
They have struggled to establish the running game and give Mac Jones any sort of protection, which obviously didn’t help with the quarterback’s struggles and regression.
Brown will now become an unrestricted free agent, and he could gauge some league-wide interest despite his age and history of injuries.
A return to New England could still be in place, but chances are that his days playing at Gillette Stadium may have come to an end already.
