The Arizona Diamondbacks overcame an adverse scenario to jump ahead in their National League Wild Card series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
They were facing Corbin Burnes, one of MLB’s best pitchers since his 2020 breakout, and were playing on the road.
To make matters worse, they couldn’t send any of their two best pitchers to the mound (Zac Gallen or Merrill Kelly), as they were recently used to secure their place in the playoffs.
But they didn’t surrender and won a huge game.
Before the teams jump to the field for Game 2 on Wednesday, the D-Backs made an exciting announcement.
“The Diamondbacks have extended the contract of GM Mike Hazen through 2028, per @nickpiecoro,” MLB on FOX tweeted.

That’s a hug leap of faith for the D-Backs towards Hazen, extending their union for five more years.
After a couple of seasons as the Boston Red Sox’s general manager – where he served as Dave Dombrowski’s right hand – in 2015 and 2016, he agreed to become the executive vice president and general manager of the Diamondbacks in 2017.
He has been the head of the team’s baseball operations since then.
He made some tough decisions, such as trading franchise legend Paul Goldschmidt, but most of the core that is currently on the verge of advancing to the Divisional round was brought in by Hazen: Zac Gallen, Corbin Carroll, Gabriel Moreno, Lourdes Gurriel, Kevin Ginkel, Merrill Kelly, Paul Sewald, and many more.
After some really rough years from 2020 to 2022, the D-Backs are now ready to compete at the highest level and that’s in large part thanks to Hazen.
