In March of 2019, the Los Angeles Angels signed outfielder Mike Trout to a contract extension.
It was, until the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Shohei Ohtani a few weeks ago, the largest contract in baseball in terms of total value: a 12-year, $426.5 million deal.
Trout, a three-time MVP winner, has missed some time with injuries in recent seasons, but is still elite when healthy.
The Angels, however, have been a mess: they haven’t made the postseason since 2014.
Not even Ohtani and Trout could help the Angels, and it will now be Trout alone.
Many people on social media (and probably in his inner circle, too) have suggested that Trout should request or even demand a trade.
However, the star put some cold water onto those rumors and indicated he has every intention of staying in LA.
“Mike Trout told the media that he’s content in Anaheim right now and that being traded would be the ‘easy way out,’” FOX Sports MLB: tweeted.

Trout is showing loyalty to the Angels, even if it hasn’t always been shown the other way around.
The organization didn’t always field the most competitive roster around Trout and Ohtani, yet with that still being the case, Trout is not asking for a trade.
This isn’t to say that won’t be the case eventually, and there is a case to be made that the Angels would benefit from trading him (salary relief and some prospects), but Trout has the look of an Angel for life.
Whether the organization can strengthen the team around him remains to be seen, but at the moment, they are looking like the fourth-best squad in the division.
