The vast majority of MLB players will tell you that baseball is their life, or at least a huge part of it.
It’s normal: they have dedicated a lot of time and resources to crafting their game.
The game, however, is not atop the priority list for everyone.
It’s also natural: people are not the same.
Still, reading quotes like the ones Anthony Rendon recently said comes with a bit of a shock for true fans.
He made it clear that baseball is not “a top priority” for him, per Angels insider Sam Blum.
“Anthony Rendon on playing pro baseball: ‘It’s never been a top priority for me. This is a job. I do this to make a living. My faith, my family come first before this job. So if those things come before it, I’m leaving,’” Blum tweeted.

If you analyze the phrase objectively, it’s hard to blame Rendon for prioritizing his family and faith before baseball.
However, with his history and how he has said the season should be shorter, fans didn’t like that he sees baseball as just a job.
In the interview (shown in the picture of Blum’s tweet) you can clearly see that he doesn’t like the media.
He has had issues with the press, with fans, with injuries, and other situations since he joined the Angels ahead of the 2020 campaign.
Angels fans aren’t too fond of Rendon, and the fact he only has a .758 OPS with them after posting a .859 mark in Washington definitely doesn’t help matters.
