On Monday, NFL running back Mike Davis celebrated his 31st birthday, and he decided to express his gratitude for being a part of the league on Twitter.
But after playing eight seasons in the pros, he also made a major career decision.
He announced on the platform that he’s calling it quits.
As I turn 31 today, I sit back and look on my NFL career and how thankful I am to be apart of a brotherhood. This game has allowed me to make a lot of friends and memories. I’m grateful for every organization in NFL. With that being said I’m retiring!

A native of Georgia, Davis played his college ball at the University of South Carolina, where he had the good fortune of being coached by Steve Spurrier.
After three solid seasons, he was a fourth-round selection in the 2015 draft by the San Francisco 49ers, and he entered the organization during one of its darkest eras.
After barely playing any snaps during his first two seasons, he moved on to the Seattle Seahawks, where he started to perk up, putting up 514 rushing yards and five touchdowns from scrimmage during the 2018 season.
Davis spent the 2019 campaign with the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers, and the following year, he got an opportunity to shine when star running back Christian McCaffrey was sidelined with an ankle injury.
In 15 games that season, he ran for 642 yards and six touchdowns while adding 373 yards and two touchdowns in the air.
With the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, he put up 503 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns before finishing up his active career with the Baltimore Ravens last year.
Davis was waived in December 2022, and thus he didn’t play for a team this season.
He has finished his NFL career with 2,052 rushing yards, 14 rushing touchdowns, and an additional four touchdowns in the air.
