After another disappointing NFL season, the Atlanta Falcons decided to clean house, starting with the head coaching position, as they parted ways with Arthur Smith quickly after the 2023 regular season came to an end.
The Falcons seemed to have their minds made up before the season ended, as Smith wasn’t the answer to lead this young team moving forward.
Once Smith was let go, former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was rumored to be next in line, but the team went in a different direction after 14 coaching candidates were interviewed, some multiple times.
Ultimately, the Falcons went with Raheem Morris, formerly of the Los Angeles Rams, to be Smith’s successor, and now the team has turned its attention to its top priority for the NFL offseason.
According to Falcons GM Terry Fontenot, the team’s top priority moving forward will be addressing the quarterback position, via Around The NFL.

Heading into the 2023 campaign, the reigns were handed over to Desmond Ridder, who was expected to be the future face of the franchise, but that didn’t turn out as planned, as he struggled all year long.
With Ridder clearly not the answer moving forward, it’ll be interesting to see what direction the Falcons go from here, as they could go after a proven veteran quarterback in NFL free agency like Kirk Cousins or try to make a trade for a player like Justin Fields.
It seems as though the team is open to all options to upgrade the quarterback position.
