The Cleveland Browns were one of the most fun teams to root for during the 2023 NFL season as they beat the odds to make the playoffs.
Cleveland suffered numerous injuries to the roster, including a devastating one to Nick Chubb.
Chubb suffered a gruesome knee injury and was almost immediately ruled out for the remainder of the season.
The Browns were able to keep their ground game afloat, but it was measuredly different from when Chubb controlled the backfield.
Although Chubb’s expected to recover and return to the field, his future with the team could be in jeopardy.
Chubb has been named as a potential cap sheet casualty via The Athletic.
“The Browns want to keep Chubb and hope he can be an effective fourth-quarter closer for them in the back half of next season. But Chubb is recovering from two surgeries on his injured knee, and he’s due to carry a salary cap charge of just under $16 million in 2024, the final year of his contract and his age-28 season,” The Athletic said.

It would be tough to part ways with Chubb who is arguably the best pure runner in the league, though it’s the reality that the two sides face.
Running backs are generally the easiest position to replace in the league, but there’s no replacing someone as talented as Chubb.
Cleveland doesn’t have to make a decision immediately and they’ll likely see how Chubb does during his recovery process.
Hopefully, the Browns’ star running back makes a full recovery and he remains a key part of the roster.
