Heartbreak seems to follow the San Francisco 49ers as they wound up losing Super Bowl LVIII to the Kansas City Chiefs, turning a season full of hope and optimism into another dispiriting one.
The 49ers were one half away from winning their first Super Bowl title in decades, but the team fell apart in the second half and overtime.
San Francisco had all the makings of a championship-level squad but choked when the moment was there for the taking.
Brandon Aiyuk, one of the 49ers’ best players and an electric wideout, finished the final game with just three catches for 49 yards.
In an offense that also features Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle it can be hard to rely on Aiyuk to constantly deliver on limited opportunities.
Aiyuk may be entering the fifth year of his contract, but Dan Graziano of ESPN believes he can get the role and money he wants elsewhere.
“To me, the most likely way this shakes out is Aiyuk ends up getting traded to a team where he’s the clear No. 1 wideout and where he can get the extension he wants, leaving the Niners to draft his replacement in the first round,” Graziano wrote.

Since coming into the league, Aiyuk’s developed into a reliable receiver and arguably was the first read in head coach Kyle Shanahn’s scheme.
Despite not making a Pro Bowl or All-Pro team, Aiyuk has more than enough total talent to rival those who did.
If the 49ers decide not to extend Aiyuk, then another team will surely swoop in to steal the talented wideout.
