The Los Angeles Dodgers spent significantly more than a billion dollars to improve their roster in the offseason.
They brought in Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, James Paxton, Teoscar Hernandez, Clayton Kershaw, and other stars and useful contributors.
That’s quite a statement right there: they told their division rivals and the rest of the league that they intend to win it all this year.
The Dodgers opened spring training action against the San Diego Padres on Thursday, and one of the newcomers already left his mark.

With the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the first inning, Hernandez roped a two-run double to score the first couple of runs of the spring for the Dodgers.
L.A. is probably hoping Hernandez, who signed a one-year deal, fulfills the J.D. Martinez role: a bat-first player who contributes power.
If there is something Hernandez is capable of providing, it’s definitely power.
Last year with the Seattle Mariners, Hernandez hit 29 doubles and 26 home runs, driving in 93 runs.
A year before with the Toronto Blue Jays, Hernandez accumulated 35 doubles and 25 long balls.
The Dodgers are hoping for a similar output in 2024.
With L.A., Hernandez will have the best collection of talent he has ever played with.
He will be hitting behind big stars such as Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Will Smith, and Max Muncy, among others.
There is a big chance he has a career year.
He got off to a brilliant start, we will definitely give him that.
