After a disappointing end to the 2023 NFL season, in which the team finished the year with a 7-10 record and missed the NFL playoffs entirely, the Minnesota Vikings will head into the offseason with some decisions to make, as this team could look a lot different next season.
The quarterback position will almost certainly look different with the consensus being that the team will let veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins walk in NFL free agency, which will be a drastic change for the team moving forward.
Along with Cousins more than likely leaving the team this offseason, the Vikings may have missed an opportunity to pay superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson a little bit less than what they’ll have to pay him after what happened on Friday.
As arguably the best wideout in the game, Jefferson will likely try to reset the market at his position, and with the salary cap jumping up on Friday to $255.4 million, he can demand more in contract talks beating out Miami Dolphins superstar Tyreek Hill, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
“Does he want to be the highest-paid receiver in the NFL, exceeding the $30 million per year that the Dolphins are paying receiver Tyreek Hill?” Florio said.

Even though Jefferson is coming off a down year by his standards due to playing only 10 games because of an injury, he’s still regarded as the best wide receiver in the game today, with perhaps only Hill being in the same category or in contention for the distinction.
That said, the Vikings will try to do everything within their power to get him paid and keep him happy while they look for the quarterback that will throw him passes for the foreseeable future in Minnesota.
