Over the last few years, one of the most talented teams on both sides of the football in the NFL has been the Los Angeles Chargers, as this team has had everything it has needed to contend for a Super Bowl title.
Unfortunately, the coaching and leadership in Los Angeles have been sorely lacking, with Brandon Staley clearly not being the right man for the job, as he couldn’t get this talented team on the right track during his stint as head coach.
With Jim Harbaugh now in the fold, the Chargers have an ideal opportunity to right the ship and build the best team possible around superstar quarterback Justin Herbert.
However, there are some big-name players on the team who are taking up an enormous amount of cap space, which could lead to some drastic changes to start the Harbaugh era in Los Angeles.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero believes there could be some salary cap casualties for the Chargers this offseason, with Joey Bosa, Derwin James, Khalil Mack, and others potentially on the bubble moving forward via The Rich Eisen Show.
“No matter who is taking over, you are gonna have surgery to do on that roster,” Pelissero said.
As Pelissero pointed out, Harbaugh doesn’t want to do a complete teardown of this roster in Los Angeles, as he wants to come in and be ready to contend for a title right away rather than a few years down the road.
That said, the team will have to really evaluate this roster and see which players they can do without in order to remain in contention moving forward, which could be a tough process, to say the least.
