The Los Angeles Rams didn’t get off to a good start to the season.
They were able to turn things around in the second half of the campaign, closing out the year as one of the hottest teams in the league.
Even so, despite their turnaround, their special teams often left something to be desired.
Special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn was heavily criticized for most of the season, and it was slightly surprising to see that the team decided to retain him, especially considering the fact that HC Sean McVay even acknowledged that they were subpar in that aspect of the game.
Nonetheless, as flawed as they were, McVay recently stated that his decision to keep Blackburn comes from the process, not the results, adding that he’s actually a fan of his coaching.
He stood by his special teams coordinator and claimed that the team should do a better job of finding and developing special team players instead (via ProFootballTalk).
“I believe in Chase,” McVay said. “You’re evaluating not just the results, but the process and what the week looks like, and the way that those players continue to believe in him.”

All things considered, the Rams were a much better team than most people expected them to be.
Despite not having Jalen Ramsey anymore and Aaron Donald’s age, the defense rose to the occasion later in the year.
Matthew Stafford proved again that he’s still an elite quarterback when healthy, and they struck gold in the NFL Draft with Puka Nacua.
Also, Sean McVay has reaffirmed his status as one of the best coaches in the game, so this team might be just a couple of tweaks away from another Super Bowl berth.
