The Minnesota Vikings got off to a rough start during the 2023 NFL season and appeared destined to miss the postseason.
However, the Vikings battled back during the middle of the year to get back into the postseason picture before Kirk Cousins suffered an Achilles injury that forced him to miss the remainder of the regular season.
Minnesota still was competitive, but faltered down the stretch and were forced to watch the playoff festivities from home.
Aside from Cousins, the Vikings were without Justin Jefferson for nearly two months as he recovered from a hamstring injury.
When healthy, though, Jefferson was a game-changer at the wide receiver position and set himself up nicely for a lucrative contract extension.
However, it appears that Minnesota is reportedly considering trading him, via Charley Walters of the Pioneer Press.
“There is ‘steam’ that the Vikings could make WR Justin Jefferson available via trade,” Walters reported, via Dov Kleiman.

Trading away a superstar like Jefferson would be a massive blow for the Vikings as he’s one of the few reasons why the team has been so competitive.
However, the idea of dealing him could be financially motivated as the team could try to reset the roster and get additional draft compensation and cap space.
Jefferson would have no shortage of suitors if he actually was available, though Minnesota might be waiting to see how free agency and the 2024 NFL Draft go before making a decision.
Paying Jefferson is still the smarter long-term move because Minnesota can build their offense around him, but it remains to be seen what direction they’ll go in.
