Last year, a lot was made of teams around the league placing franchise tags on some of the best running backs in the NFL, like Saquon Barkley, Tony Pollard, and Josh Jacobs.
The consensus was that teams like the Las Vegas Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, and New York Giants didn’t want to pay their star running backs, with these teams feeling like they could bring in rookies that could produce at the same level and at a much cheaper price.
With one year in the books, and not one of these star backs having a good season in 2023, the process starts all over again, but none of these players will be getting franchise-tagged this time around.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Jacobs will not be tagged by the Raiders this time around, but the team will attempt to re-sign him during the NFL offseason, leaving his future up in the air in Las Vegas.

Jacobs played in only 13 games during the 2023 campaign, finishing with 805 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 233 carries.
If Jacobs had played in every game, there’s a chance he would’ve eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark and added a few more touchdowns to his total, but it is definitely a down year compared to his breakout year in 2022.
With the Raiders overhauling the coaching staff with Antonio Pierce now leading the way, it’ll be interesting to see if Jacobs is in the team’s long-term plans and if a deal can get done and the team can avoid losing him in NFL free agency.
