The New York Giants have gone back and forth with Saquon Barkley, or so it seems.
The Penn State product has repeatedly talked about feeling disrespected by the team in contract negotiations, and while he wanted to stay there throughout the course of his entire career, he recently admitted that he would consider playing for another team now.
There were reports about the team not interested in placing him under the franchise tag, but they didn’t seem interested in signing him to a long-term deal, either.
Nonetheless, Giants GM Joe Schoen just said otherwise.
Talking at the NFL Scouting Combine, Schoen claimed that the team is definitely looking forward to bringing Barkley back, adding that he hopes to sit down with his agents and representatives soon (via Giants Videos).
“He’s a guy we’d like to have back,” Schoen said.

Barkley has been their best offensive player by a significant margin for years now, and their chances of moving the chains without him are quite slim.
Daniel Jones regressed vastly last season, and he might have a tough time putting up points on the scoreboard without a solid running game.
Then again, it’s also worth noting that running backs aren’t exactly valuable in today’s pass-happy market, regardless of their impact.
Also, with Barkley’s history of injuries, it’s easy to understand why a team would be wary of signing him to a long-term deal, including big money in guarantees.
Even so, multiple teams could be interested in his services if the Giants are unable or unwilling to meet his demands, so this will be a key storyline to follow.
