The New England Patriots will start the 2024 season with a new head coach for the first time in over 20 years.
Bill Belichick is an institution of the organization, but the team decided that after the 2023 campaign, it was time to try something new.
Now that Belichick is not a coach for the Patriots, or any team in the NFL, for that matter, he has more time on his hands.
He appeared in a new documentary about the Patriots’ dynastic run, Belichick’s tenure as head coach, and of course, Tom Brady’s dominance.
One of the topics the documentary covered was the Spygate scandal.
Belichick was asked about this, and, as a recent article from The Daily Mail highlights, he wasn’t willing to comment further on that particular situation.
‘Yeah, again, that’s all in the past,’ Belichick said when asked about the ‘difficult subject’. ‘I’ve made my comments on that. I don’t have anything to add.’
The alleged Spygate scandal was regarding some videotapes.
Members of the Patriots organization were said to be filming the New York Jets, trying to understand what their defensive signals were during the 2007 season.
Belichick was fined $500,000 as a result of these actions, and the team was fined $250,000.
They also lost their first-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, a sign of how seriously the NFL took these allegations.
This documentary will certainly remind fans of this scandal, one of the largest in NFL history.
While Belichick was said to be a part of it at the time, and the fact that this happened nearly 20 years ago, it is clear he wants to leave this situation in the past.
