The Miami Dolphins have been one of the best offensive teams in the league since Mike McDaniel arrived in town.
On the flip side, they haven’t been as proficient on the other side of the field.
This is different from the Brian Flores era, and it’s about time the team finds some balance.
Notably, that was the expectation when they hired Vic Fangio to be their defensive coordinator last season.
While his tenure as head coach of the Denver Broncos wasn’t exactly successful, the team was lights out on defense.
However, injuries hit the Dolphins’ defense hard, and they suffered because of it.
With that in mind, McDaniel claimed that both parties had healthy conversations to assess what went wrong and what went right at the end of the season, and they came to the decision that it was better to part ways.
He admitted that it wasn’t planned; it just happened (via Around the NFL).
“Ultimately, when push came to shove, it seemed like we both had the opportunity and it’d be best for both parties involved to literally, mutually part. So it wasn’t anticipated. It was something that I think was a factor of great communication between him and I, where we feel like we’re all best served if we go a different direction, which is something that we had mutual belief. I’m excited for both parties moving forward,” he said.

This was for the best, for Fangio at least.
He moved closer to home by joining the Philadelphia Eagles to replace Sean Desai as defensive coordinator.
As for the Dolphins, McDaniel will now have his third defensive coordinator in as many seasons in charge of the team, hoping that Anthony Weaver can finally put together the solid defense this team needs to find success.
