The Philadelphia Phillies have had some special seasons over the past five years.
But, they did not leap into perennial contention until they landed Bryce Harper.
When Harper hit free agency back in 2019, there was clear interest from the Phillies.
They needed a star player, and there was not a bigger star in the game at the time.
It has been five years to the day since the Phillies landed Harper.
The Phillies posted a fifth anniversary tweet to celebrate.

Since then, the Phillies have made the playoffs twice including one trip to the World Series.
Also, Harper was named league MVP with the Phillies in 2021.
Harper has been well worth the massive contract.
He has become a fan favorite and one of the best players in Phillies history.
But, there is still plenty of unfinished business for Harper.
He said in his introductory press conference five years ago that he wants to bring a championship to Philly.
That is once again the main goal for the team in 2024.
Losing in the NLCS last season put a bad taste in their mouth.
But, the Phillies have a great shot of getting back to the Championship Series.
Even with the National League looking loaded, they have a roster capable of winning it.
Along with Harper, the Phillies brought in Trea Turner in free agency last season.
Those two should combine to be one of the best duos in baseball.
The Phillies have done a great job building around their star.
Harper should have this team in contention for the foreseeable future.
