After having a Pro Bowl rookie season with the New England Patriots, it seemed as though quarterback Mac Jones had a bright future with the team and in the NFL.
Unfortunately, it all went downhill from there, with Jones having to deal with some drastic changes to the coaching staff and a severe lack of stability in terms of who was teaching him to excel at the quarterback position in the NFL.
In the three seasons Jones has played in a Patriots uniform, the former Alabama star’s numbers have been in a steady decline, as he is coming off his worst season as a professional, throwing for 2,120 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
Ultimately, Jones lost his starting job in New England, and some, like Louis Riddick of ESPN, believe that he wasn’t given a fair chance to shine with the team due to his development being coached by those who specialized at coaching in other areas via ESPN’s Get Up.
“You put a special teams coach and a former defensive coordinator in charge of [Mac Jones’] development? … That’s coaching malpractice,” Riddick said.

Riddick isn’t wrong about his assessment of how things went wrong for Jones in New England, as Bill Belichick and company really dropped the ball during their development of the young quarterback.
With Belichick now unemployed and the Patriots heading into a new era, it’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for Jones, especially with New England expected to take a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
