It has been a long time since the Las Vegas Raiders have had a truly elite quarterback.
From 2014 to 2022, they had Derek Carr, a man who made the Pro Bowl four times but led them to the playoffs just once, and late in 2022, they finally decided to move on from him.
They brought in veteran Jimmy Garoppolo last offseason, but after he played poorly in seven games, they benched him.
Las Vegas has a new permanent head coach in Antonio Pierce and a hole to fill under center, and Pierce made it clear that he wants a permanent, high-quality solution at that position, per Vincent Bonsignore.
“That’s old, man,” Pierce said about a temporary fix at quarterback.
Antonio Pierce is not interested in any more band aids at QB for the @Raiders.
“That’s old, man” he said.
If it means being aggressive and trading up for a franchise QB: “That’s my personality. I’m a go-getter.”

After benching Garoppolo, the Raiders went with rookie Aidan O’Connell at quarterback, but O’Connell didn’t do much better than Garoppolo, throwing for 2,218 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 62.1 percent of his pass attempts in 11 games.
They do have talent elsewhere, including star wide receiver Davante Adams and a very solid WR2 in Jakobi Meyers, and on defense, pass rusher Maxx Crosby continues to terrorize opposing signal-callers.
In addition, the Raiders could end up re-signing running back Josh Jacobs, whose numbers fell in 2023 but led the NFL in rushing yards the year prior.
A couple of candidates to fill their quarterback position could be Russell Wilson of the Denver Broncos and Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings.
Another possibility for them is using their No. 13 pick in April’s draft to select a quarterback or even trading up to take someone such as Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels.
