The Kansas City Chiefs rallied behind their defense to get to the Super Bowl.
Steve Spagnuolo put together a championship-caliber defense and deserves all the credit in the world for that.
Nonetheless, he also had some stellar players to build around, such as L’Jarius Sneed.
That’s why it’s so unfortunate that the team could be without the stellar cornerback after free agency.
According to a report by Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, the Chiefs are preparing for life without Sneed (Via Dov Kleiman).
#Chiefs are “preparing for life” without L’Jarius Sneed, per @TonyPauline
“The overwhelming feeling is the Chiefs expect to be playing without Sneed in 2024 and rather than lose him in free agency and then receive a compensation pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, they’ll try and get a… https://t.co/XIUXvu0HTi pic.twitter.com/MXKGblAtPN

The team granted Sneed and his camp permission to seek a trade.
The Chiefs would rather get some valuable compensation for his services now, as opposed to waiting to get a compensatory draft pick in 2025.
They also informed him that they would place him under the franchise tag if they were unable to strike a deal on a long-term contract.
The Chiefs could still trade him after tagging him, but he would need to sign the tag, so he would pretty much have to agree to a trade to whichever team wants him beforehand.
Sneed is one of the best cornerbacks in the game, and losing him could be a massive blow to their defense.
As of now, it seems highly unlikely that both parties will be able to agree to terms of an extension.
Notably, that’s not the only big name that Spagnuolo could lose now, as Chris Jones is a free agent again, and they already have a history of some hostile negotiations.
