Back in 2021, the New York Jets decided to use the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft on former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson.
Wilson was immediately viewed as the savior for the Jets, which meant that he had huge expectations and a giant amount of pressure put on his shoulders.
Fast forward to now, and New York is looking to move on from the young quarterback after just three seasons in which he didn’t do much during his time out on the field.
Many believe Wilson probably just isn’t going to ever be a productive pro quarterback, but former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson recently shared how he isn’t someone who is giving up on the No. 2 pick in the 2021 draft just yet (via Nightcap on Twitter).
“All of the untapped potential that is in Zach Wilson has been wasted in New York City.”

While Wilson hasn’t been successful during his first three seasons with the Jets, it’s hard to put the blame entirely on the quarterback’s shoulders, as Johnson is alluding to with his comments.
Wilson is still only 24-years-old, meaning when he came into the league back in 2021, it probably would have been best for him to sit on the sidelines for a season and learn from a veteran quarterback.
But New York was so bad in 2021 that they wound up rushing Wilson out onto the field before he was ready, and this probably had a big impact on his development.
The recent turnarounds of Baker Mayfield and Geno Smith should give Wilson hope for the future, but that future likely isn’t going to involve him wearing a Jets uniform.
