The San Diego Padres might have had to cut some payroll this year, but there is no denying that they have been one of the teams that have tried the hardest to put together championship-caliber squads in recent seasons.
They have splashed the cash, they have traded for impact players, and they have tried to develop stars.
This approached maxed out with a Championship Series appearance in 2022, but they missed the postseason last year with an 82-80 record.
First, it was the sign to shed payroll, and then it was owner Peter Seidler passing away: the Padres were hit hard in the offseason, and we are not even talking about the players they lost.
Juan Soto was traded, and Blake Snell, Seth Lugo, Josh Hader, Michael Wacha, and others left via free agency.
Believe it or not, there is still a quality team in place to compete, and the organization posted a hype video to remind fans that not everything is lost.

The caption reads: “For Peter (Seidler). For San Diego. For the Faithful.”
They still have, as the video shows, many star-caliber performers: Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., Ha-Seong Kim, Joe Musgrove, Yu Darvish, Jake Cronenworth, and several top relievers, including newcomers Yuki Matsui and Woo Suk Go.
To say that the Padres can compete with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the regular season would be a stretch.
However, they are actually competing to get into the playoffs.
From there, anything can happen, as they have proven in recent seasons, even beating LA in the postseason.
