Not so long ago, Baker Mayfield was expected to be the next big thing in the NFL.
Of course, that wasn’t the case, and he failed to live up to the hype that comes with being the No. 1 selection.
Fortunately for him, he was able to salvage his career last season.
He made the most of the chance Todd Bowles and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave him, posting Tom Brady-like numbers and securing himself a big contract in the offseason.
The Bucs are heavily expected to resign him, but they might not be his only suitor.
According to a report by Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the New England Patriots are also very high on him.
Even so, he also said that they could be a long shot to get him.
“The Patriots are very high on Baker Mayfield, sources have said. But I’d consider that one a long shot for a variety of reasons (Pats in position to draft a QB, Mayfield’s free agent contract, likely several other suitors, etc.). Never say never. Just not likely,” Howe said.

Then again, we’ve seen crazier things happening, and the Patriots could also look to sign him and get star WR Marvin Harrison Jr. out of Ohio State with the No. 3 selection.
Mayfield might not be a superstar, but he proved that he just needed to play in the right system to be productive.
The Patriots have some executives who were instrumental in getting him to the Cleveland Browns, so this alleged interest is far from surprising.
This could be a long shot, but the NFL is as unpredictable as it is exciting, and the Patriots have rarely taken the orthodox approach to any decision.
