After being unable to replace Peyton Manning, the Denver Broncos got tired of bringing in disappointing young quarterbacks and decided to jump on the opportunity to bring in superstar Russell Wilson in a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks.
The move was thought to be another game-changer for the Broncos that would immediately thrust them into the title-contending conversation, like the New York Jets did by acquiring fellow superstar Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers.
Unfortunately for Denver, the bold move to bring in Wilson didn’t pay off, as the team arguably took a couple of steps back rather than the expected giant leap forward with the veteran quarterback under center.
Wilson showed that he had lost a step or two since his dominant days with the Seahawks, which is obviously the most disappointing outcome for the Broncos as they gambled on a seasoned veteran and lost.
On Monday, the Broncos announced they will be parting ways with Wilson this NFL offseason, which will result in $85 million in dead money, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.
Meirov also noted how the Broncos paid Wilson over $120 million for 30 starts.
The final tally: The #Broncos paid Russell Wilson over $120 million in cash for 30 regular season starts in two years.
Denver will end up taking $85M in dead money just to move on.

As if the trade haul wasn’t enough to cringe at, Denver losing that much money on a bad gamble is painful, to say the least, especially without a clear plan for the quarterback position moving forward.
The Wilson trade to Denver will go down as one of the worst in NFL history, as the Seahawks made out like bandits while the Broncos are left with a lot of regret and a blow to their confidence when thinking about making bold moves in the future.
