Each MLB team plays 162 games for the opportunity to compete in the postseason.
Making the playoffs is the goal for all 30 MLB teams before the year.
But, some teams that end up making the postseason suffer heartbreak.
One division in particular has been synonymous with losing in the playoffs.
That is the National League Central.
Over the last few postseasons, the NL Central winner has done nothing in the playoffs.
Last season, it was the St. Louis Cardinals who got swept by the Philadelphia Phillies in the Wild Card round.
Now the same thing has happened with the Milwaukee Brewers this year.
They got swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks and the NL Central struggles continue.
According to Bob Nightengale, the last time an NL Central team won a postseason series was in 2019.
How ugly has it been for the NL Central in recent years? The last time an NL Central team won a postseason series was in 2019, the division is 2-20 in postseason play.

It is hard to fathom why the NL Central has been so bad in the playoffs.
Maybe it is because they do not have a dominant team in the division.
The winner of the Central usually has a good roster but not great.
It seems like their flaws have been exposed over the last few postseasons.
But there is no excuse for not being able to win a Wild Card series all at their home park.
Many thought the Brewers had the pitching to take them far in the playoffs.
But, that same pitching failed them against the Diamondbacks.
The NL Central is one of the worst divisions in baseball, so maybe the top teams have not been battle-tested heading into October.
