It’s cap casualty season in the NFL as teams are clearing as much room as possible before free agency.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have made headlines today by releasing one of their most consistently reliable defenders.
Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report is reporting that the Jags are cutting veteran cornerback Darious Williams after two seasons with the team.

Cutting Williams will save the Jaguars $10 million against the salary cap and cost the team only $500,000 in dead money.
Williams is coming off arguably his best season, where he started all 17 games for a second consecutive year and posted a career-high tying four interceptions to go along with a pair of forced fumbles.
Williams had one season left on his deal after signing for three years and $30 million in 2022.
Jacksonville currently sits with an average amount of cap space compared to the rest of the league.
Spotrac has Jacksonville with about $39.5 million in cap room after cutting Williams, which helps the Jags clear a bit more room to potentially bring back star edge rusher Josh Allen via either the franchise tag or a long-term contract.
Williams, a Jacksonville native, now becomes one of the best corners available in free agency.
Williams turns 31 on March 15, so he’ll likely be looking for his last big multi-year contract.
He has 10 interceptions in his career in 76 games across five seasons and should have no problem finding another home, as nearly every team would love to have a veteran corner who stays healthy and can consistently make plays on the ball.
