The New York Yankees have some of their top prospects in camp showing the best of their talent.
The most impressive of them all has been, without a doubt, outfielder Spencer Jones.
The 2022 first-round pick out of Vanderbilt is having an amazing spring training, even if the sample size is still very limited.
“The Spencer Jones Show takes Clover Park. Jones is hitting .462 (6-for-13) in seven spring games thus far with 5 R, 4 RBI, 2 BB and one booming 470-foot home run,” Yankees insider Max Goodman tweeted.

So far, Jones has shown his incredible raw power, with that 470-foot blast, and improved bat-to-ball skills, with that .462 batting average.
He is also slugging .692 and is showing the world what he is capable of.
Some would say he is giving his all, eager to break camp with the team, but that’s extremely unlikely not because he lacks in talent, but because the Yanks would love to give him everyday playing time and at-bats and with Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, Trent Grisham, Alex Verdugo, and Giancarlo Stanton all healthy, that seems impossible.
Talent is what he has in bunches, though.
If he manages to cut his strikeouts, he has enough power (16 home runs between High-A and Double-A last year) and speed (43 steals between the two levels) to make a lasting impact for years.
His long strides (he is 6-foot-6) also allow him to cover a lot of ground in center field, making him an asset there.
Jones is full of tools: he just needs more consistency and time in the high minors to finish his development.
That could happen at some point in 2024, but chances are we will have to wait a bit.
In any case, he is looking like a future star in spring training.
Yankees fans could not be more excited.
