As MLB teams finalize their participation in the 2023 season, they are starting to sort out their managerial situations.
Most of the current skippers in the league are secure, but the San Francisco Giants (Gabe Kapler) and New York Mets (Buck Showalter) have already fired their skippers.
Another one retired, Terry Francona, and Phil Nevin of the Los Angeles Angels is on an expiring contract and won’t be returning, the team announced.
That means that, for now, there are four managerial openings in the league, and there could be more depending on each team.
Who will be the men occupying those openings?
Will we see veterans returning to The Show?
Or is this an opportunity for teams to get fresh, modern ideas from younger candidates?
According to MLB insider Jon Morosi, the Seattle Mariners alone could give teams several managerial candidates.
“I expect multiple Mariners coaches to be considered for MLB managerial vacancies this offseason: bullpen/quality control coach Stephen Vogt; 1B coach Kristopher Negrón; and 3B coach Manny Acta. Acta, 54, managed 6 combined seasons in Washington and Cleveland,” Morosi tweeted.

Of those names, only Acta has MLB managerial experience.
Other names that could be in consideration are Joe Espada, Hensley Meulens, Clayton McCullough, George Lombard, Don Mattingly, Mark DeRosa, Benji Gil, Don Kelly, Rodney Linares, Will Venable, and others.
Most of them are successful coaches with current MLB gigs with various teams.
Some of them are former players like DeRosa, who is also an analyst who also managed Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.
The vast majority of them won’t be able to land a managerial job.
Which will be the lucky ones?
