With all teams using the franchise tag on their stars, the National Football League is bracing for free agency.
Ironically, the most devalued position in terms of the market also happens to be one of the most important on the field.
Running backs are getting less money and fewer guarantees by the year, mostly because their bodies wear down faster than other players.
Notably, that’s because they’re out there enduring a beating on every snap, either blocking, running, or catching passes.
Teams would rather let their veteran running backs walk away in free agency and then turn to the NFL Draft to get their replacements on cheap deals.
However, there’s still a handful of stars who could get a nice payday in free agency.
With that in mind, former star RB LeSean McCoy shared his list of the top five free agents at the position right now (via Speak).

At No. 5, he chose Tony Pollard, who had a disappointing year with the Dallas Cowboys and failed to establish himself as a legitimate workhorse back, but who’s still quite tough between the tackles.
Derrick Henry got the nod at No. 4, and while some doubt his ability to find success outside of Tennessee, he’s still the most physical force at the position.
The New York Giants allowed Saquon Barkley to walk away, thus making him the third-best running back in free agency.
D’Andre Swift got the nod at No. 2, mostly because of his quickness and ability to change directions and pick up big gains.
Last but not least, he talked about Las Vegas Raiders star Josh Jacobs, perhaps the most underrated star running back in the league for years now.
