Ever since new acquisition Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles in the New York Jets‘ first offensive series of the season, there have been many rumors that they will look to sign or trade for a veteran quarterback in order to stay afloat.
The rumors were so expansive that one even had the legendary Tom Brady coming out of retirement to join the Jets.
Another one has Cam Newton, who last played two seasons ago, coming out of retirement himself.
Per Dov Kleiman, Newton said the Jets would have to give him more than $5.5 million to sign and play for them.

Not too long ago, Newton was considered one of the NFL’s better quarterbacks.
He made the Pro Bowl three times in his first five seasons, and in 2015, he threw for 3,837 yards and 35 touchdowns, which earned him the regular season MVP award and a spot on the All-Pro First Team.
That was the season he led the Carolina Panthers to the Super Bowl, where they lost to the Denver Broncos in Peyton Manning’s final game.
Newton is now 34 years of age, and while he may not have much left in his tank, he would at least be a veteran option for a Jets team that is floundering at 1-3.
Zach Wilson, their current starting QB who is in his third season, has thus far amounted to little, and it has resulted in them ranking next-to-last in passing yards.
They have failed to score over 20 points in regulation so far this season, and despite ample talent on the offensive side of the football, they badly need an infusion in that department.
